There is not one library that is best for everything, sometimes one, sometimes the other and often a combination of two. If you want truly playable stuff, you will never quite reach 100% realism IMO, but I get pretty far with OT Berlin Strings, Spitfire Chamber Strings and Cinematic Studio Strings. So Spitfire Symphonic Strings contains three diverse sounding mics (Close, Tree, Ambient) which allow Symphonic Strings to be used on a variety of uses from expansive tight modern action music to sweeping romanticism. All recorded in the legendary Air Studios in London. when OT would update it properly and fix some strange things/bugs/mistakes and add some missing pitches via transposition in the runs builder, I would 100% recommend it. Spitfire Audio has made many orchestral libraries, but this has to be one of their top achievements. That is why I can only recommend it half heartedly. It is often frustrating to use and you sometimes get strange (unexpected/wrong/ugly) result when you sequence with it. The two seem to fulfill the same particular need, with differences in price (Ostinato is on sale for 1/3rd the price of SM even with 40 off discount) and sound. As a result, Alternative Solo Strings is a perfect accompaniment to our popular London Contemporary Or-chestra Strings, which was recorded in the same location. It just so happens I was looking at buying Ostinato Strings from Sonokinetic last night, and now Spitfire made their announcement of Symphonic Motions. Recorded at Air Studio One, a smaller, more controllable space. Be aware, though, that you have to experiment what sounds good with that library and compose according to that! There are also playable runs included, but you do not get the same liveliness out of those.Īlso, OT have not really put that much attention to keeping this library up to date. The inclusion of Bartok Pizzicato is especially unexpected for a free VST, as that’s a more advanced technique. If you want to hear it in action, I partly used it on the Horror Score I posted in "Members Compositions". The LABS Strings 1 & 2 are another quality addition, altogether including six patches: long, short, ensemble, ensemble swells, pizz, and Bartok Pizz. As with many virtual instruments by Spitfire Audio, Hans Zimmer Strings had a high investment in quality and detail. One library you can get really terrific results with, as long as you stick with what is available is Orchestral Tools String Runs. Renowned virtual instrument manufacturer, Spitfire Audio, produced Hans Zimmer Strings with the help of the legendary composer for Dunkirk, Interstellar, and Inception.
